Orlando, Fla., March 8, 2006/ - Amscot Financial, a leading provider of convenient, consumer-oriented financial services, invites all to come out and have fun “the Amscot way” at its open house on Saturday, March 11, 2006 from 12 to 2 pm at 4240 S. Semoran Blvd. in Orlando.  Amscot Financial will present a $1,000 contribution to Health Masters Club, Inc. and to Mayor Buddy Dyer’s 2nd Annual City Kidz Event in Orlando.

Health Masters Club, Inc. was founded in 2003 by Dr. Toni Moody, a pediatrician from Orlando who witnesses daily the devastating effects of obesity in children and the ongoing health issues that result.  The Club’s overall mission is to improve the well-being of children and their families with a focus on preventing childhood obesity and Type 2 diabetes.  Their motto, “be healthy and teach a child to be healthy,” summarizes their philosophy of wellness as a holistic approach between the mind, body, and soul.  The 3rd Annual Health Masters Camp for children at risk is currently being planned for this summer.  Amscot Financial’s donation will contribute to the success of the camp.

Mayor Buddy Dyer’s 2nd Annual City Kidz Event will take place on Saturday, April 8, 2006 at the Portofino Bay Hotel.  Last year the event raised more than $450,000 for pre-kindergarten programs in the City of Orlando.  This year’s proceeds will benefit the Parramore Kidz Zone.  Parramore Kidz Zone is an initiative created by Mayor Buddy Dyer that is focused on creating positive child-rearing conditions in the Orlando neighborhood of Parramore.  Major goals include lowering teen pregnancy rates, improving school performance, and decreasing juvenile crime and child abuse rates by funding programs that will help residents rebuild their families and their future.

During the open house event, entertainment will be provided for the community by stilt-walking juggler and balloon twister Calvin Roe.  Radio station WXXL – 106.7 will broadcast live from Amscot’s parking lot and give away prizes.  Free refreshments will also be provided.

At the Amscot grand opening, the Child Protection Education of America, Inc. (CPEA), a national nonprofit organization for missing children based in Tampa, will also be available on site to provide free fingerprinting for children through their “ID ME NOW” program.

The program produces a state-of-the-art, specially designed card for parents to keep.  The card contains a set of the child’s digital fingerprints, a black and white photo, a dental chart, and instructions on how to do a simple DNA collection.  Safety brochures are provided with the fingerprint card, as well as an envelope containing further information on how to complete the child safety kit. 

This information can assist parents and law enforcement officers involved with a missing child case.  An interactive child safety CD-ROM can also be purchased for $5 at the event with profits going to the CPEA for creating the CD-ROM.
