DeLand, Fla. – March 22, 2008Amscot Financial, a leading provider of convenient, consumer-oriented financial services, held an open house on Saturday, March 22 at its new location at 1697 N. Woodland Boulevard in DeLand. Amscot presented a $500 contribution in support of the 2008 Battle of the Badges event, which supports the Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches.

Founded in 1957 by the Florida Sheriffs Association, the Youth Ranches is a non-profit, residential child-care and family service organization. It is a nationally recognized, accredited agency with sites throughout the state of Florida. The staff includes social workers, counselors, therapists and cottage parents who serve thousands of youth and their families each year. Programs include residential group child care, family services and camping aimed at meeting the diverse needs of at-risk youth and their families.

The 2008 Battle of the Badges event is being organized by Volusia County Sheriff Ben Johnson. During the inaugural event held on Sept. 21, 2007, the Battle of the Badges fishing tournament raised $115,000 for the Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches.

Amscot presented a $500 contribution to the School of Nursing at Bethune-Cookman College in nearby Daytona Beach. The School of Nursing offers a Bachelors of Science degree in Nursing. It is approved by the Florida State Board of Nursing and accredited by the National league for Nursing Accrediting Commission.

During the Amscot open house event, children’s entertainment will be provided. Radio station WJHM, 102 JAMZ, will broadcast live from Amscot’s parking lot and give away prizes.  Free refreshments also will be provided.

At the Amscot grand opening, the Child Protection Education of America, Inc. (CPEA), a national nonprofit organization for missing children based in Tampa, will also be available on site to provide free fingerprinting for children through their “ID ME NOW” program.

The program produces a state-of-the-art, specially designed card for parents to keep.  The card contains a set of the child’s digital fingerprints, a black and white photo, a dental chart, and instructions on how to do a simple DNA collection.  Safety brochures are provided with the fingerprint card, as well as an envelope containing further information on how to complete the child safety kit.

This information can assist parents and law enforcement officers involved with a missing child case.  An interactive child safety CD-ROM can also be purchased for $5 at the event with profits going to the CPEA for creating the CD-ROM.
