The grand opening event will be held at 5691 Semoran Blvd. in Orlando.  Entertainment will be provided for the community by juggler and balloon twister Calvin Roe.  Radio station WRUM – 100.3 FM will broadcast live from Amscot’s parking lot and give away prizes.  Free refreshments will also be provided.

The Hi-Tech Tutoring Center, Inc. (HTTC) is a nonprofit computer-based corporation committed to providing after-school, computer-assisted tutoring in the basic skills of reading, writing, math and science to children, youths and adults.  Founded in 1991 by Mrs. Ernestine Mosley, HTTC strives to instill in the students the desire to learn and to motivate them to achieve the highest possible levels of academic performance.  While HTTC’s primary focus is on the basic skills necessary for success in school, the programs are designed to enhance the skill level of every enrolled student.  As a result, many of the students are working to improve reading and math skills, but some are also gifted students working toward improved test scores in anticipation of college enrollment.  HTTC is made possible through generous community support.  The donation received from Amscot Financial will be used to purchase school supplies and educational software and to provide services for students who are unable to pay the nominal tutoring fees.

At the Amscot grand opening, the Child Protection Education of America, Inc. (CPEA), a national nonprofit organization for missing children based in Tampa, will also be available on-site to provide free fingerprinting for children through their “ID ME NOW” program. The program produces a state-of-the-art, specially designed card for parents to keep.  The card contains a set of the child’s digital fingerprints, a black and white photo, a dental chart, and instructions on how to do a simple DNA collection.  Safety brochures are provided with the fingerprint card, as well as an envelope containing further information on how to complete the child safety kit.  This information can assist parents and law enforcement officers involved with a missing child case.  An interactive child safety CD-ROM can also be purchased for $5 at the event with profits going to the CPEA for creating the CD-ROM.
